Who We Are

Greg Berry

I’ve never been a fan of labels, job titles or other boxes which get developed in the pursuit of meaning. True meaning is much more nuanced than most of the two-word descriptions we use to accommodate the split-second judgments Malcolm Gladwell references in Blink.

My entire life I have been an independent thinker and a media architect. I have had business card titles ranging from Executive Creative Director to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Stuff (ah, the dotcom boom days). I have been an executive and an editor, a consultant and a founder, a global convener and a trusted advisor, a peacekeeper, a devil’s advocate and a currency designer. AlwaysOn thinks I’m a curator.

The thread that runs through each job has been a focus on using technology (the printing press counts) to organize information in support of a community. As a dot.communist, I built and operated web platforms that brought people together and provided them tools and information that enriched their endeavors. As a conference designer, I worked with people across cultures (dozens), continents (five) and time zones (too many) to create discussions and networking space that encouraged cross-disciplinary learning and innovative new partnerships. As a publisher, I researched and wrote about the news and connections among people who made an entire industry run.

Check my LinkedIN profile for a more formal review of my professional life.

I am a serious telemark skier, and am passionate in my belief that the bicycle is on of the most profound solutions for many of the country’s (and the world’s) problems, including obesity, health care, climate change, energy and lack of community.

When people ask what I do, I say I’m a communications consultant, and that seems to satisfy nearly everyone.

If you want more detail: message, medium, and audience. Understanding all three and how to connect them is essential for effective communications, and that’s what I do for my clients.

I’ve spent most of my career working for, or within, corporations, but the message-medium-audience triad is universal. I’ve also done non-profit, and politics, and a few other areas that aren’t easily categorized, and I’ve learned that the basic elements of sound communications don’t really change.

Still more detail? I’ve been working as a communications professional for over 15 years. My career has encompassed media relations, crisis management, strategic planning, and employee communications. I’ve worked for a variety of industries, particularly in transportation, including aviation, ocean shipping and most recently, a bus manufacturer. I’ve also worked for national companies in real estate and fast food, as well as several local businesses.

Before kids, I used to love to travel, and someday I am sure I’ll love it again…but with two little people in tow, not so much. I’m passionate about politics and sometimes find the time to do something about it.

Our Life Together

We live in Boulder, Colorado with our two children, our big dog, and two cats. We love Boulder for its access to the outdoors, our luscious garden, the unique collection of kind and excellent people, and an excellent bike path system.
